...overlooking the lower lake, by Jaume Plensa, my very favourite sculptor...
New for this year, and helping to celebrate 40 years of the Yorkshire Sculpture Park! It is a 7metre high bust of a young girl, and represents the potential for greatness in all of us.
This positivity was a stark contrast to Alfredo Jaar's exhibition in and around the Underground Gallery. The extra shows a cell in "The Garden of Good and Evil" inspired by "One Square Metre of Prison" - a poem by Mahmoud Darwish who was imprisoned many times and spent much of his life in exile. The exhibits are challenging, and concentrate on man's inhumanity to man - and how the rest of us are perhaps prepared to walk on by.
Lupes will be posting her blip later if you want to see more - we had a great afternoon, as always, but were glad we saw the Alfredo Jaar installations first, and had a coffee afterwards to recover ;)
