Day out

Taking my brother and sister-in-law to Sète to catch a train to Italy (well, after a couple of changes, but a trip that makes me quite envious), we decided to take advantage of the chance to see the wonderful Chabaud: fauve et expressioniste exhibition at the Musée Paul Valéry. Such exciting, modern framing of Provençal, Parisian and North African scenes, great colour and bold shapes - hard to imagine that these paintings all date from before the First World War. We spent most of the morning there - having coffee on the café terrace looking out to the port and the sea over the Maritime Cemetery, where the poet Paul Valéry is buried, looking at the pictures in the galleries - and then returned to the café terrace for a very good lunch at the edge of the pool that adjoins this one with its comfy-looking deck chairs. A swim in warm sea at Marseillan-plage on the way home. Tomorrow I really will have to get back to work!
