From Kona to Hilo

Today has been a very exciting day! We set off from Kona on the western coast of the island to travel to Hilo on the eastern coast. En route we stopped off at the Waipio Lookout where this photo was taken. Astonishing view even on a cloudy day.
We also visited the Keck Observatory HQ and visitor centre where we got a very interesting tour. Astronomy has been a love of mine since my childhood so this was super exciting for me!
We continued en route to Hilo and suddenly my phone began buzzing with emergency alerts about flash flooding in Hilo!! Not quite what we expected on a visit to Hawaii, but we got here safe and sound, even although it has rained heavily this evening. Hilo is renowned for being one of the wettest cities in the USA due to its location.
