Covent Gardens
We decided on a day in London. We got up early and had breakfast in the hotel, to be able to reach Notre Dame de France in time for Mass. it was marvellous to hear Mass in French! The first Sunday in advent. Time to have the four candles out and start preparing for the birth of our Lord.
A walk around Covent Garden was very productive in Christmas presents. Coffee at Costa and that’s when we decided to try and get theatre tickets. We walked to the Duchess theatre. Our Christmas present to each other: The Play That Goes Wrong! It was an evening performance so we walked across the Thames along the South Bank and ended up in the Tate Modern. Loved looking at some of the exhibits while Ro had a rest!!
We crossed back to St. Paul by the Millenium Bridge were we had a very late Lunch /very early dinner au Pain Quotidien. Love their food! At one point they were playing the Ave Maria in the background. I was so surprised but loved it.
We dauddled as still far too early for the theatre. A slow meander to see the Old Bailey, exclaim at all the huge corporate Christmas trees, down Fleet Street, Covent Gardens in the dark with all the lights (blip) Here we again heard the Ave Maria, this time sung by an opera singer with a beautiful voice. Wonderful!
On past Drury Lane Theatre where crowds of photographers, film crews and plebs like us were admiring the celebrities going in, and finally back to our theatre!
I have never laughed so much in my life! A great evening to finish a great day!! Tomorrow home!
