The Three Bridges

The last Spokes Sunday bike ride went to Linlithgow. The roads were quite wet from overnight rain, but the temperature had risen to a balmy 6degC.

The morning ride was very nice, blue skies at the start. Its quite still initiall as we are in town, and then following the National Cycle Route out of Edinburgh to Cramond. As we head west along the road, there is a slight headwind. It isn't too bad, as the road then heads south and soon we reach Kirkliston for a wee breather.

From Kirkliston, its west for a wee while, before turning on to a minor road, taking through Niddry and Faucheldean. The the back road to Linlithgow through Ochiltree. The road is a slight incline, before a few rolling hills and then a long descent in to Linlithgow itself.

We have a nice lunch in the Four Marys, and great chat as well.

After lunch, its a climb out of Linlithgow heading east and slightly wind assisted. The sun is now totally obscured by clouds. Then its down hill all the way through Philpstoun and Old Philpstoun. There's a wee strip of the A904, before heading down to Abercorn and the Hopetoun Estate. The estate is quite busy for some reason, but all the vehicles are heading the other way to us. Just outside the east gates, we stop to admire the three bridges across the Firth of Forth.

Then its to South Queensferry, where we join National Cycle Route 1, Through Dalmeny, the A90 cycle path to Cramond Brig. Then its back in to Edinburgh, the rear lights twinkling. Just over 60 km in all.
