Red and Green
When l was a teacher in Primary School and when it was well before the introduction of the National Curriculum l used to have an art table on the go in my classroom all the time.
Pupils did at least three pieces of art and crafts each week.
At this time of the year we all sewed little felt stockings which l filled on the last day of term, made party hats, constructed stained glass windows for the classroom, designed and made our own Christmas cracker complete with our own jokes.
We made Christmas cards and baubles using a variety of media ( mostly old tat!)
Everyone made a table decoration with the pine cones and greenery l took in.
We used inks and food dyes mixed with icing sugar to make abstract paintings and finally used red and green poster paints mixed with vegetable oil to do other paintings.
I always made a display of the latter with the heading ‘We see a lot of red and green at this time of the year’
Slowly but surely lots of those activities got squeezed out by the National Curriculum, but what fun we had over the years.
The pupils had to bring in a big bag to take all their goodies home at the end of term.
For some reason the Red and Green phrase came into my head today when thinking of Abstract Thursday.
Thanks to Ingeborg for hosting.
So l’ve taken this photograph of the old road to Otley, now closed to motor vehicles so a good place to walk and cycle.
I’ve used Photo Lab Masterpieces to give it a Merry Fir Tree effect .
There we have it : Red and Green.
