The Boiler Man Cometh
Boilerman came again this morning, though of course this was a different boiler man. Following the replacement of the timer last week, the thermostat on the boiler controlling the central heated had not worked. We could get very weak heat in the radiators, though nothing like enough to get through a British winter.
After a sharp in-take of breath when I told him the make of boiler, he dismantled it, tut tutted a few times then put it all back together again. "We'll need to change the PCB, the switch....." and something else technical. "Of course as they don't make these types of boiler anymore it could take six weeks to deliver as there is a waiting list". Great!
As he left I noticed a noise coming from the boiler even though it was switched off. Ann ran after him and dragged him back kicking and crying. "Nothing to do with me mate, its water running through the cold water pipe". It wasn't happening before he touched it, bit of a coincidence or what? So he took it apart again, fiddled about inside, went outside to check the overflow pipe, came back in, had a think, then went into our downstairs loo. "Ah, I must have forgotten to switch off the tap after I used your loo". The noise ceased. He left rapidly and drove off at speed.
I took today's photo this afternoon when we went out to try and de-stress following the on-going boiler farce. I thought this gentleman sitting and reading at the base of The American Fountain on Rother Street was a picture of relaxation.
I thought this track is appropriate to the situation 'The Gas Man Cometh - Flanders and Swann'
