Busy Saturday
An early start today - by 8 am I'd finished writing the Christmas cards - hooray!
Next task, cleaning and waxing the floors in the sitting and dining rooms. A palaver, involving piling the contents of each room at one end, doing the necessary and then repeating the process to do the other half. We had done the first halves by mid-day.
After lunch we went over to Duns to get a couple of bags of peat for the stove - our annual Christmas treat, there's nothing as homely as the smell of a peat fire.
The sun was shining and the sky clear, and we were only a few miles from the coast, so the next stop was St Abbs. No fishermen or divers to be seen today, we almost had the place to ourselves and we walked out to the end of the breakwater to watch the waves crashing on the rocks. (Extra). The odd one was cresting the wall and we just missed a soaking.
After that to the Number Four gallery, full of lovely things, at which I ooh-ed and aah-ed. As we were leaving, TM handed me the car keys and said he was just popping back in ....... so I am fairly sure he's done his Christmas shopping. I haven't a clue what he has bought. While he was in there, I took the above, the old church which looks out over the village to the North Sea beyond.
The gallery lady told him that there were seal pups to be seen at the bottom of the cliffs a mile or two further on. But by the time we got there, darkness was falling, and we could just make out the adults on the beach below, there was no sign of the babies. The temperature was below 0, so I hope they were somewhere sheltered.
After that, home to finish the other half of the floor. Too tired to put the rooms to rights, that will have to wait till tomorrow.
