A Day in Govan

very relaxing day in the sunshine, wandering around Govan in Glasgow with a group of walking friends, though today was a strolling day! we are in Govan as this group is walking ( over the past three years) the length of the Clyde from its source in the Leadhills to its mouth. there is not much of the riverside you can walk along here, but there is loads to see in Govan and one of the group had done a recce and knew exactly where to take us.

one of those days when you can blip countless photos, but I have chosen this one of the sculpture called 'The Launch' by George Wylie, which sits in the middle of the pond in Elderpark. Completed in about 2000, it commemorates Govan's shipbuilding history and includes a small bottle of champagne at the bottom of the sculpture.

We spent time at Govan Old Church looking at the Govan Stones - 31 early medieval stones carved in the 9-11th centuries, including 5 hogback stones, which are carved burial stones. I was amazed to find out that Govan is older than Glasgow, and there has been a church on the site of the present one since 500AD and possibly before!!

a good day in good company was rounded off with a good old Mother India curry!!
