Mummer’s Play

The boys slept well till 7am. Then it was full on. James emptied the log basket again and made a circuit to walk the pretend dog round. Eventually I gave him a dust pan and brush and he swept up the bits of bark that had fallen off.

Mr C took them home and I made an overly ambitious salmon terrine from last Saturday’s Guardian which involved layers of smoked salmon, then cream cheese and beetroot, more salmon, then chopped avocado, spring onion, coriander and lime, more of the puréed beetroot and cream cheese and so on. It was at bit sloppy, but very tasty.

22 of us gathered at Linda’s for her party. Six of us did our mummers play (having had no rehearsal). I played the doctor. I had marigold rubber gloves, a toy stethoscope, a top hat, and a bag full of Mr C’s tools including a hammer and a saw, plus a bottle of gin, the cure of all ills. It was fun.

Then we had our pooled supper round the table, with singing, poetry and readings. Edinburgh fringe next year! Not!
