Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

2017 Saturday -- Traveling thru Fires

Today we drove the 4 hours from our SoCal home to our Central Coast home. We had planned to leave much earlier, but then got slowed down because we needed to get some official paperwork from our former-son-in-law and from our daughter.

We finally departed mid-morning and 90 minutes later found ourselves off the freeway and driving near the burned-out areas (from the recent fires in Ventura) and today a section of the freeway was closed due to a brushfire. After a stop in a park to potty the dogs, we found the alternate route and were quickly moving toward Santa Barbara.

Then in Santa Barbara a section of the freeway was closed because a diesel truck had turned over on the freeway last night and it caused a lengthy clean-up. As we drove the surface streets in Santa Barbara, we could see in the hills above Santa Barbara the flames of the Thomas Fire. The billowing smoke was horrendous.

So the trip to Cayucos from Corona took a little over five hours, instead of four. It has been almost a month since we last were in Cayucos. We have a lot happening with two houses for sale, the one we live in and a little rental house; it's a place we bought in 1992 for our daughter's family to live in while her husband attended college, (so being in Corona has been necessary).

It's so good to be back in Cayucos.
