Enveloped in steam
The world and her husband, partner, other assorted relatives friends and and all their children were out today walking off the excesses of yesterday’s feasting. The Maidstone Model Engineering Society had their track open in the morning while it bright and suny. They were inundated with crowds of people, young and old, queuing up for a ride behind a steam engine.
For today’s blip I opted for a shot not including the engine. You can see it’s been there! I just liked the atmosphere of the drifting steam covering and wisping around people with only the top of a child’s head visible in the clouds.
We passed a major milestone on this walk. We’ve been doing the Walk 1000 miles in a year for the 4th consecutive year. We passed last year’s total of 1,444 miles earlier this month and today passed the 1500 mile target we’ve been aiming for. We had a little celebration with our cold ham dinner tonight. Walk 1000 miles has become a phenomenal success which tens of thousands of people involved, sharing their successes and ambitions and extolling the positive benefits of walking on physical and mental wellbeing.
Whether we shall continue to exceed the previous year’s total remains to be seen. Perhaps we’ll settle for the 1000 miles next year. It can become all consuming and I wonder where people find the time to cover 5500 miles in a year even if they’re retired?
