Exsquisite
‘I was staring at the sky, just looking for a star
To pray on, or wish on, or something like that’
- Fiona Apple
You’ve got to find your Exquisite
where you can.
Sometimes you search for it.
Sometimes it’s presented to you on a plate.
Some see it in the glowing embers in a grate
or in a jewelled dewdrop dripping from a gate.
It’s great if you can find a touch of it,
a lovely little bit of it, a gorgeous exquisite taste of it,
in the unlikeliest of places,
its traces delighting you
and inviting you to partake of it.
At times it’s so easy:
‘Ah,’ you say,
‘just look at that exquisite sparkling star in the sky.’
But, if you can find your Exquisite here,
(even if you don’t know how to spell it)
then you’re a better person than I.
