2017 Tuesday -- House Searching
Our Cayucos real estate agent again today walked us through the house next door (there is an empty lot of land between us and this house). The house has been "for sale" since October 2016. The price has been lowered twice, but it is still priced too high.
Today I think Mr. Fun & I "got over it" and walked away saying, "Nah, this is not the place." We are currently selling a little rental house in SoCal that we've owned since 1992. In order to not pay capital gains tax, the money from the rental house must be reinvested in another investment property (or there are several other options to shelter the money).
But today we finally realized what our real estate agent has been telling us all along, "It's dated and over-priced." We've been attracted to it because it has the same lovely view as our little beach house, but it has more room, a big garage and a carport, more closets -- it's just grabbed our attention.
But today we said, "Nah."
So our search for another place to invest continues because our little SoCal rental is in escrow and if the escrow goes through, we'll need to re-invest or pay the huge tax, which seems like a penalty for having been good stewards of our money.
In Cayucos on California's Central Coast,
Rosie (& Mr. Fun), aka Carol
