A bright new year

A few drops of rain this morning and then the sun came out and let us enjoy a nice bright new year's day walk around the village.

We stayed at home last night and enjoyed a roast dinner with a very nice bottle of red wine.  At about 1130 pm the doorbell rang and a somewhat distressed youth asked us very politely if we could ring 999 for him as he had run away from a group that had threatened him with a broken bottle.  After ascertaining a few more details from him I called the police and was very impressed when a police car arrived in only about 4 minutes with another arriving a few minutes later.  The police questioned the lad further before both cars took off quite rapidly with him.  After all that excitement we settled down to watch the fireworks at midnight.
