the year to come

I’ve seen quite a few high contrast snowy blips of late and thought I’d like to try something similar - although the snow has gone, the water-logged field made a reasonable substitute.

The Year to Come
I don’t really do New Year’s resolutions - they’re always doomed to failure.  But Peter Capaldi’s speech in the Christmas Day episode of Dr Who seemed something worth aiming for:

Never be cruel, never be cowardly. And never ever eat pears!
Remember – hate is always foolish…and love, is always wise.
Always try to be nice and never fail to be kind.

(I’ll ignore the bit about pears though).

If you prefer a more classical take on things:

Hope smiles from the threshold of the year to come, whispering, “It will be happier.”
Alfred Lord Tennyson

And for balance, so we don’t get too carried away ….

My theory is to enjoy life, but the practice is against it.
Charles Lamb

And just in case any despot (insert world leader of choice) happens to be a secret blipper;

Be at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let every new year find you a better man.
Benjamin Franklin
