A Refuge From the Storm
It was not a good day for outdoor activities, unless you have a masochistic streak, or happen to be a dog. Number 1 daughter, S, is taking a break between jobs, and spending a few days at a couple of Bellingham-area resorts. She stopped at our house this afternoon with her dog, who needed exercise, so she and I braved the torrential rain and strong, gusty winds, together with said dog. Cynthia, still recovering from a nasty cold, was excused.
After we'd all gotten adequately moistened, S wanted to go somewhere warm and dry where we could get good food and beer. I knew of such a place -- Boundary Bay Brewery and Bistro. Although S has visited Bellingham many times, she'd never been to BBB -- a terrible deprivation that I was happy to rectify.
The bar was crowded with people watching a football game, so we opted for the relative quiet of the restaurant area. S had the BBQ pork sandwich with a pint of the seasonal Cabin Fever, while I had my favorite lamb burger with IPA. Everything was judged to be excellent.
The paintings at the end of the bar are by Lorna Libert, who favors large canvasses, the most notable example being her life-size giraffe.
