Home Again
Last night we got in about midnight after a day travelling home from London. We thought we'd have to dig our way in to the house but the friends who had stayed there over New Year had done a wonderful job of clearing the snow from the path and doorways. We arrived home under a clear starry sky and when we awoke this morning the sky was blue and the sun was soon to rise.
In the daylight we could see just how much snow had fallen while we were away - lots! I checked out the veranda behind Betty's and could see the roof beams were visibly bending under the weight of all that snow. When I climbed up I could see the snow was over a meter deep where the veranda roof joined the house, and still about 60 cm deep at the edge (see extra picture). It took me around 2 hours to move the approximately 3 tons of snow. Fortunately it was more a matter of sliding it off rather than lifting it anywhere!
In the picture you can see our slightly ramshackle kayak shed, which also stores the lawnmower and cycles until spring arrives. That's maybe my next digging task...
