Virgin Balloon over Abernethy

Before even the sun
a bright idea has taken
to the sky: a hot thought
on a still October day.

Dreamily untethered,
from an adolescent's mind,
it sighs as it ascends
above the carse,

causing dogs to bark,
men to stop and gaze
before they fold into their cars
and drive to work.
