A Letter From America

Yesterday Lucy came home from school with an invitation to represent the UK at a Global Young Leaders Conference. She had been nominated by the Headmaster at her new school in light of her GCSE exam results and after consideration of the nominees by the Conference Board has been offered a place. Conferences next year are being held in Washington/New York, China or Europe (Germany/Austria). The programme of events lasts for approximately 10 days. We now have to consider whether to let her go or not. Lucy is interested in going to the USA event (which is actually the cheapest) but I'm not sure how I feel about her flying half way round the world unaccompanied at 17. It's a great opportunity, she would visit the UN Security Council, the US Embassy Headquarters, Washington DC Memorials and have a tour of the United Nations Headquarters in New York as well as taking part in lots of discussions and plenty of sightseeing. There is a rather large fee for the conference package plus the additional cost of flights, transfers, insurance etc so we need to give it some serious thought!

Decisions.....Decisions

Whatever we decide, we're really proud of her for being nominated. Apparently the last time her school nominated someone was in 2008 so I feel it is a great achievement to have got an invitation.

In other news......Rob's school bus didn't arrive this morning so had a frantic dash to get him to school on time and we are at a parents evening tonight to discuss Lucy's January examinations......it can't be exam time again already surely!!!!
