Blip mate and I went blip hunting this morning with nothing in mind but to sit and wait for something to turn up. There was not a lot of sitting done when we spotted that the lazy spoonbills were late getting up this morning and were still roosting in their tree
The tree is quite distant and the tide had a couple of attempts at cutting us off as we got as close as we could to get a photograph. As a bonus, there were also white faced herons roosting a little lower in the same tree. The first extra shows these two species in the tree together.
The water racing in chased us back to the other side of the causeway where we saw five shags preparing for roll call (Extra number 2).
Moving on to Sanctuary Ponds we managed to sit and observe at last. I was intrigued by a duck beside me who was rolling an acorn around and around in her mouth. (Extra Number 3).
The sitting finally paid off when a damsel fly landed on a nearby floating leaf. Sadly, it was another that was too tiny and too distant to see in detail. (extra number 4).
It was a good morning out.
