Top of the Island
We rented a minibus today to see some of the island. I've never experienced anything like it before, it seems like there is virtually no flat ground here.
One of the highlights was the huge climb up through the observatory to the highest point of the island - Roque de los Muchachos. Here you are rewarded with an amazing view of the volcanic crater which encompasses the 'Caldera de Taburiente' national park.
This is the view looking roughly south from the summit. You can just make out the island of El Hierro on the horizon and in the other direction was Mount Teide on Tenerife. I think this was the highest I've ever been on 2 feet.
I was keen after this day to get up to the summit in the middle distance.
