Avian Flu - I Fear For Pheasy
Amwell Nature Reserve, which is only about three miles away from us, has been closed because of an outbreak of avian flu. I immediately thought of our friend Pheasy Boy, as pheasants have succumbed to the disease in the past.
I sat glumly indoors watching the snow fall and attempted a few shots through the window. The snow turned to sleet and I wrapped up and went for a walk. I saw the hen pheasants first under the old oak in the corner of the field. I was delighted to find Pheasy in the area where the burdocks went to seed. He was fearless as usual and I knelt in the snow talking to him. I hope the bird flu can be contained for the sake of both our local wild birds and commercial flocks.
