What Were They Thinking?

In the time it took to go to the back gate, the fog had rolled in thick as an army blanket but not as warm, for the temperature felt like it had dropped fifteen degrees. I felt like turning around and going back down the stairs, but Ozzie was having none of it, so we soldiered on around the circuit.

We could hear the construction going on in the new subdivision, but, although it was just a few hundred yards away we couldn't see a thing. They are working like mad to finish all the houses. Even though the houses aren't particularly attractive, and cost over a million dollars, people are moving into them as fast as they can get them built, such is the housing shortage here now. The ones that aren't jammed up against another house do have a nice view, but there aren't very many of those.

As I was headed out to fortify myself at Acre Coffee with a latte and a soft boiled egg and toast (with chimichurri sauce) I drove by the abandoned trailer which was left next to Spring Lake over a month ago. Last week somebody spray painted on the side in neon orange paint...'move this wreck off this street'. Today it had been set on fire and was nothing but a skeleton of blackened metal...as if we didn't have enough of those around town already...which may be the reason the city is unable to find somebody who is free to tow it away....

As drank my coffee I was well situated to observe people waiting in the queue to place their orders, or standing at the condiment counter doctoring their coffees and picking up napkins. I let my imagination create stories for them. The first fellow must have injured himself falling off his motorcycle, the young lady in the middle had to have left the house in a rush, for she forgot to finish dressing, and the young man on the right just needed a big hug. At first I thought he was being mauled by a big cat, but the rest of the critter on his front revealed it to be a bear, so I suppose one could say he needed a bear hug....
