Australia Day in Carcoar

We wanted to take the new car for a drive to get some kilometres on the dial before towing the van. As it was a public holiday for Australia Day we headed to Carcoar.

Top left is typical scenery. It's hot and dry here but sort of beautiful.
Top right Aussie flags on an iron balcony.
Centre left Cobb and Coach Royal Mail was the way people travelled in the old days if they could afford a ticket.
Centre right "City Bank". Carcoar was the third settlement west of the Blue Mountains and of great significance until the railway bypassed it and it went into decline.
Lower left are the 1849 convict built stables and old machinery, now a museum
And...some folk in period costume, probably feeling the heat
Lower right is the entryway to the Anglican Church.

Carcoar has a pop of 218. It is classified by the National Trust as a built environment and is named from the Aboriginal word for either kookaburra or frog. Maybe both??

We enjoyed the new car but gee whiz, we are still trying to work out what the buttons and knobs are all for. Bob is sitting in it at the moment reading the manual.

As well as Carcoar we also went to Cowra Japanese gardens so I might put up an extra of the lovely green gardens...we didn't actually go into the gardens I will have to confess as it was way too hot to linger in the sun so had some lunch instead. Also extra of wind farm at Carcoar.
