Gillies Hill -The Murray Cemetery
Good news is reported in today's Stirling Observer as the council has passed an order which stops the proposed quarrying on the Gillies Hill for about 5 years. While not the end of the matter it is a great result for the work which has been done by the Save Gillies Hill campaign in recent years.
It was a very wet and muddy walk on the hill today and we paused to have a look at the tiny cemetery which holds the gravestone of Major Alistar Bruce Murray, the last laird of the estate of Polmaise and Touchadam who died in 1924. A small stone in front of the cross commemorates his son and heir who was killed at the Battle of Loos in 1914.
The cemetery is another reminder of the rich history of the area. The home of the Murrays, Polmaise House, has of course long since diappeared.
Since posting todays blip I have been working on my Blipfolio---images of New England now there for those interested!
