Venice - day 2
We were up early again today and out the door by 6.20am to get the vaporetto (water bus) to San Marco Piazza to shoot some pre-dawn photos. We knew there would not be a lovely sunrise, the forecast was for cloudy weather. The first extra shows the piazza in the blue light before the sunrise, with no one around - not a scene one often sees as it is always full of people. We took more long exposure photos of the gondolas moored at the square looking towards San Giorgio. It was very cold and when we went back at about 8.30am for breakfast I was more than ready for a cup of hot tea.
After breakfast we went back to San Marco Piazza for more photos - by now it was quite busy with tourists. After a while we took the vaporetto out to another island where we spent some time taking more photos looking back at San Marco and of the church on the island. We then went back to get some lunch, and then wandered the streets taking photos along the way until we got to Rialto Bridge. I have added an extra of a gondola in a small canal - by now the sun had finally broken through the cloud and we got some lovely light.
We were at Rialto Bridge for some time, until the sunset as per my blip, and then stayed later for the blue hour. We finally got back to the hotel at about 6.30pm and then went out for supper 20 minutes later. It has been a long and full day, very enjoyable but also very tiring. I did have an excellent coffee along the way today to sustain me...true Italian style, where they do not do take away coffees but rather you order at the counter and it is served at a drinkable temperature so you are able to drink it while standing at the counter and be out and on your way in a short while.
Tomorrow morning is another 6.20am start....two members of our group have chosen to rather sleep in and I may have to do just that on Sunday morning and excuse myself from the early start as I am feeling pretty knackered!
