The Somerset Levels
It was a fairly dull day but not too wet so we drove across to the Levels, which in places are under water once again, although thankfully nowhere near as badly as in 2012/2013, when the road we used today was closed for 3 & 1/2 months due to the flooding.
We have a copy of Matilda Temperley’s excellent book, Under The Surface, in which she documented the floods and discussed the political decisions that affected the local community. Matilda Temperley is better known for fashion photography (her sister Alice is a designer) but her parents and grandfather were affected by the flooding, so the book really was a personal project.
This was taken from Burrow Mump, a hill on the Levels. I’ve deliberately given this photograph a ‘grainy’ look.
