Root canal

In something of a schoolboy error, I swam last night and then went for a run, this morning. By the time I arrived down to the canal, below Wheelton, which was only after three miles, my legs felt like they'd done ten.

However, as I ran along the canal, I saw that they'd emptied a section out and the Canal Trust were having some kind of open day, so I thought that, assuming I made it back, I'd see if the Minx and miniMinx fancied coming back with me to take a look.

I managed just under fourteen miles in the end and I can't remember the last time I was so knackered at the end of a run. But after a shower and a banana, I jumped* in the car with the Minx and we drove up to the canal. (The miniMinx was unconvinced.)

I like canals. They strike me as a very beautiful and impressive contribution to the landscape. And such engineering skills! Seeing a canal like this fascinated me. And look at how, in the section on the floor of the canal, there's that channel that's formed between the two locks.

I was very impressed by the whole set up (see extra photos) and also oddly pleased by the number of people who had come to take a look.

*This is a very inaccurate description of the manner in which I made my way to the car.
