National Lighthouse Museum

Today we head off with our picnic to Aden Country Park near Mintlaw. Ten miles from our destination we got beaten back by the rain and instead turned towards the bright lights of Fraserburgh. For those that don't know, Fraserburgh is a tough little fishing town in the north west of scotland, hewn from granite, exposed to the North Easterly gales sweeping in from the Baltic across the North Sea.

It's also home to the National Lighthouse Museum which is bloody fantastic. It shut down for a spell because Aberdeenshire Council cut the funding, but re-opened earlier in the summer to see their highest ever visitor numbers.

It's got an amazing set of exhibits - lenses the size of small cars, the reflection of one you can see behind Corrie in this photo. For a small entry fee (£0.00 if you're a historic Scotland member!) you get a tour around the lighthouse too. Highly recommended!!

After that we had a bracing walk on Fraserburgh beach, backed by a sand dune nature reserve, surely one of Scotland's 5* beaches. A great day even though the weather was a bit crap.
