Blair Atholl Castle and Gardens

A trip to the castle for a look around this absolutely magnificent building. Weapons on the walls in what would have been the public spaces as a reminder of the prowess in battle of the Dukes who held the title (and the estates). There are also a lot of deer skulls with antlers attached, of course, as a proud reminder that the Atholl estates have for a long time been managing the red deer population.

The kids got to do a quiz while walking around the house and there was a prize for each on completion. Eldest and Middle Offspring got to polish some antlers in the Great Hall (todays blip) and got certificates for doing so and then we did the quiz which involves a walk around a small part of the castle grounds (no prize for this one, although eldest tried his luck for it).

A lovely walk into the Hercules Garden where the peace was fabulous and only broken by us trying to keep the offsprings off the grass and on the paths.
