Ye Olde Golf Tavern

Can you remember what you were doing in 1456? No? Me neither, but the good burghers of Edinburgh were playing golf on Bruntsfield Links and requiring a tavern to supply them with some liquid sustenance at the end of a game.

I have wanted to blip the Golf Tavern every time I walk across the Links, but generally there are delivery lorries obstructing my view. Today was different and here it is in all its glory.
I think it looks quite French, maybe thanks to the green shutters, but there was a French influence in Scotland at that time because of the Auld alliance and Mary Queen of Scots.
The pitch and putt golf course in front of it is still in use and attracts a lot of support during the summer months particularly.

Today with the rugby posts framing the door, the tavern seems to have added that game to their repertoire giving the punters ample opportunity to watch Scotland being slaughtered in the current 6 Nations Rugby tournament

The world was white again this morning, but fortunately it has all disappeared like ‘snaw aff a dyke’ as the saying goes.
I know it is only the beginning of February, but I am already very tired of winter and cold weather. No wonder it lifts my spirits to see the papers full of summer holiday advertisements- blue skies, blue seas, and golden sands, what’s not to like?
