U-Bein Bridge
We flew to Mandalay first thing this morning for the start of a very busy day.
Mandalay sounds so romantic. In reality it is an enormous, sprawling city with loads of traffic. We did not spend time there. We visited the village of Mingun with a massive unfinished pagoda. You stand and gawp at the great gash from an earthquake in the 1800s.
My blip shows the famous U-Bein bridge. It is a teak construction stretching 1.2km over Taungtaman Lake. The bridge has very few handrails so you need to walk in the middle unless you have very good balance and a head for heights. It can be very busy on there.
We had a wonderful boat trip to see the bridge at sunset. It's quite a sight. I've chosen not to include the setting sun in my image because it was very bright.
We are staying in yet another lovely hotel but have to be up early tomorrow for sunrise!
