Last night's parent's evening was very productive. Thomas is lucky enough to have very keen teachers who go beyond what is required of them to ensure their pupils achieve the best of their ability. As Thomas is aiming for a top university it means so much extra work, with other things having to take a back seat from now onwards. He was going to do his music diploma in trumpet this year but we have now decided to abandon that and rather focus on his academic work.
After 4 hours sleep on Thursday night we only had 4.5 hours sleep last night - due to the very early flight to Zurich - so I have been feeling very tired today. I was going to sleep on the plane but Thomas and I ended up having a really good chat, and as any parent of a teenager knows, those lovely long conversations are just so rare at this age that they must be grabbed with both hands and sleep can wait!
We had low cloud and it was snowing lightly all the way up from Zurich. Funnily enough even though it is 2C here it feels much warmer than London has been this past week, when it was about 7C. I think the difference is that there is no cold wind today. This is a small town we pass on the way - for many years we pronounced it as Sir-knee-is when in fact the Swiss Germans pronounce it as Zur-noyse (I think that is correct?) We had a funny conversation with a local once when he did not know which town we were talking about! We always laugh about that when we drive past it.
We arrived, dumped our bags and went grocery shopping (as is the usual pattern of things). Gavin is busy cooking a chilli for supper and I know we are all going to have an early night.
I think the weather is brighter tomorrow and so we will probably go skiing, but I will see what it is like when I wake up.
