Common Enchantments

Beach walk

We finished up the meeting today and had all the things loaded up that needed to go back to the directors house by 11:30.

My cousin D and I opted out of lunch because we wanted to do some beach time.  The fog was still there same as Saturday but it was warm enough to be out without a jacket.   So we drove south about 30 minutes, found a boardwalk where walked on a little ways out into the marsh area.   Plenty of pelicans, cormorants(I think) and sea gulls, one heron, and what I think is an oyster catcher..see the extras for a few of those.     Then we backtracked a little to drive to a restaurant we knew about for a late lunch of cod and mussels..then drove south again.  We stopped at Huntington Beach State Park which is on the ocean but also is the sight of the old brick "castle"  home of sculptress Anna Huntington built in 1931.  We were late getting there and were not able to wander around all the rooms so another trip planned and a visit to Brookgreen Gardens where Huntington's sculptures are shown.

We did get to walk on the beach!  It was still foggy and windy but not too cold..brisk would be the word I would use!    A sand castle was there!  (see the extra!)  And we almost got our toes wet!  The main photo is at this beach.

Since it was close to 5pm we thought we should be making our way home as it was a three hour drive.  But as we were leaving the park over the causeway bridge, there were more birds and an alligator.   So we stopped to look.

Finally arrived home at 8:30!   And it was raining!   But no rain on us all day until we were home!!   Tired and ready for my own bed!
