Old cabin amidst Fall foliage
Saturday
After a delicious breakfast of blueberry pancakes (yummy!) Roger and I went walking at Rowe Woods. The weather was quite cool and overcast, but appeared to be brightening a little as we left home, however, by the time we got there it was raining quite steadily. We decided to go walking regardless, in the hope that the rain would stop, which eventually it did, and in fact the sun even came out for a while. The woods looked magnificent with its carpet of fallen leaves of all colors, but I decided to go with this shot of Abner Hollow cabin. It's been quite a long time - probably a couple of years - since we have walked that way, as they have fenced off quite an area as a "children's playscape" which separates the cabin from most of the other trails. The playscape is more than just a playground - its an area for children to learn about and interact with nature:-
- "the features are designed for open-ended creative play rather than predetermined, specific uses.
- nature is the focus, not human-made elements.
- plants, soil, and water are integrated and available to be touched and manipulated, not just observed."
I thought something seemed different about the cabin, and I was looking back at a previous blip I had taken back in 2009, and realized that the porch which now goes around three sides is a recent addition. It makes quite a nice feature, and they have several rocking chairs set up so you can sit and enjoy the surroundings or watch the birds, and it will of course also help protect the old timbers from the elements.

It seems as though a year ago was a similar sort of day, though even colder and wetter!
