Mr and Mrs Kiwi

Didn't mean to, but spent the whole day working in the garden. We had two guys doing the heavy work, like pruning the heck out of these two monstrous kiwi vines, but we did plenty on our own and I'm beat. I didn’t take a before shot, but this structure was covered with vines about four feet high. We harvested many flats of kiwis and there are still plenty on the remaining vines. It's great to have someone who can run up and down the ladder and even stand up on the arbor to reach the hard spots.

They also opened up the pineapple guava tree so it looks much airier and full of light. And they attacked our infamous carport rose, an old heavy biomass that was too weighty for the structure. It's down to the roof line now, and shaped into a nice fan. Boy did they generate a big pile of greenwaste. Luckily they had a chipper.

This whole party started quite early this morning when my son came over and  planted a new persimmon tree out back, a task which was more than he bargained for, involving digging a huge hole and sawing out some old roots as thick as my arm. But it's a good site for the tree and it looks happy.

So having trimmed and weeded and picked and swept and carried and crawled the day away, we are now showered and ready for happy hour. My friend who made the Manhattans had to go home, so I'm back to sharing a beer with Mr S.  It's good beer though, don't worry.
