Rufous Hummingbird
I had a lovely time this afternoon photographing several of the southwestern Hummingbirds. This little guy took a break and rested while sipping nectar, instead of beating his wings at up to 80 times per second. (please have a look in Large.) I was thrilled to be able to see the beautiful color in his wings. They are such amazing little creatures. Their little hearts can beat up to 1260 beats per minute, or as slow as 50-180 beats per minute on a cold night when they experience torpor.
It was difficult to choose my blip so I will post several other shots in extras.
