Starlings in the snow
Should green-as-moss be mixed with
blue-of-steel be mixed with gleam-of-gold
you'd still fall short by far of the
Tar-bright oil-slick sheen and
gloss of starling wing.
Having said yesterday that we rarely get Starlings in the garden, I looked out this morning and there were two finding some easy food in the snow.
We thought the snow would miss us, but we woke this morning to quite a covering. All day has been a mixture of snowfalls that covered the ground very quickly, wind that blew a lot of the powdery stuff around and sunshine that melted the rest of it, then back to snowfalls. But we have come off very lightly compared to a lot of the country. Strange for our daughter in Kent to have so much snow, and us in Cumbria to have so little. It is usually the other way round. Perhaps we are in for more tomorrow.
