New Kid On The Pond

He's a Bufflehead (don't you just love that name?), Bucephala albeola, described as a small, plump (I love that too), diving duck who has a puffy head with a white patch.  I'm pretty sure I've seen him before but he was too far away for me to identify.   He "patters on the surface with rapid wing-beats before flying", and you can bet that I'm going to try and catch that.

His name, Bucephala, comes from a Greek word meaning ox-headed.  The species English name evokes the high, domed forehead of the American bison.  Just the kind of fun fact that would enable someone to win money on Jeopardy!
