Missed connections

Today didn't go as planned. I was due to go to Manchester to present a paper at a conference. First train cancelled but decided to take next one, reasoning I could turn back at Carlisle if needs be. We were advised to do so. Slight hitch - no trains north & no replacement bus service. 

Spotted that trains were running to Newcastle so checked whether I could go there and get East Coast train which I could and so I did. Got back to Edinburgh just before Red Alert kicked in and safely home.

Road outside strangely quiet tonight but very little snow but cold.

Work closed tomorrow so will stay close to home.
