Going

Last night's light was under a wee bit snow this morning. Most of it seemed to be made up of hailstones (as can be seen here) which was compacting well.
The birds had been walking on the pond - obviously looking for a drink - despite my clearing large areas yesterday. Not that there was much evidence of it though. When I went and broke it up again the ice was about an inch thick! ..... it must have been cold last night.
Just after doing that and clearing the front path the beast arrived.
Or what passed as it.
There was no howling gale we were promised and it was small flakes and hailstones off and on all day.
By the time it had stopped the light had lost its post (about 3" - most of which was 'drift') and the pond had got smaller with the puddings having got bigger.
The Robin was a bit annoyed at being kicked off the feeder by the starlings.
The snowy backdrop might help show off the orchid on the windowsill, but I think I may have to move it so that the cold doesn't kill it.

From what I have heard today the council seems to have pulled all workers back inside so they don't get killed by the weather (we have got a 'Red' warning after all!). This has meant that there is no help for those who do actually have to get around by car or public transport (although there is gie little of that)  and is acctually adding to the world grinding to a halt.
The entire shopping centre was closed so ther was no chance of hoarding.
I hope common sense prevails and it is open tomorrow or I might have to start living on fat reserves.
