Day 3 - Galveston

Up early-ish. Jet lag starting to abate. Left the hotel and headed towards Galveston. Good news for me, I had managed to get a charger and spare battery for my small Nikon. As anticipated, the journey was broken by a (short) diversion into the outlet mall in Gonzales, just outside Baton Rouge. Mrs SoL was happy and got what she needed.
The journey afterwards was uneventful. 350 miles, including, at the start, view of the bayous as we left the area. Pretty. The trip was ok, made the more interesting by the ads en route. The ‘Best Hookers in Town’ was an ad for a towing company. One Mayor had tried to make his town more interesting than all the others by inviting passers-by to ‘stop by and take in the scenery’. The scenery was the same as the previous 100, and next 100 miles. Flat.
Ate lunch in Cracker Barrel, Mrs SoL’s favourite, avoiding the ‘best’ Cajun and Louisiana restaurants on the way.
We arrived in Galveston at sunset. Found the hotel and had a meal. Not too much time for interesting pics, but the tallship and the marina looked lovely. So did my surf & turf - at least enough for two. Got through it. Diet on hold officially.
Outside, I listened for the ‘seawinds blowing’; tick. Then looked for the ‘dark eyes glowing’; lights in the harbour counted; tick. No sign of any tribute to Glenn Campell. Will restart the search tomorrow morning before we set off for our next stop.
