But really things are getting better: the snow is slowly thawing and there are green patches on the lawn and it is so much warmer.  We should be able to drive up onto the lanes tomorrow if it does not freeze overnight. T and K were able to journey in their 4x4 to the supermarket and butcher but they advised us not to go out.  We are always the last to reach civilization after the snow as we live on top of a hill with steep sides and the local country lanes up here are never salted.
