Planned Obsolesence (MM215)

Possibly a (very large) bee in my bonnet, but I find the degree of planned obsolescence in some modern technology is quite an ugly concept.  These two sat navs sit in our garage awaiting the next trip to the tip recycling centre where they can join the every growing pile of 'small electronics'  which occupy one of the skips.  Both of them were bought with the idea that the maps could be updated at some point in the future,  but by the time that was worthwhile, the battery in one was not holding a charge and the cost of a map update was more than a whole new device.

The only thing saving them from the skip was the possibility of a blip at some point :-)

I can't help thinking that some degree of repairability and/or the use of standard size batteries in this sort of thing would go a long way to reducing waste and probably cost less in the long term.

Mono Monday - thanks to Nickimags888 for hosting.
