Struts and arches
This morning I went on a joint photography meet with our U3A Photography Group and that of Wrexham U3A. We went to Pontcysyllte Aqueduct (information here) and had a good time although it was very cold on the top. There was lots to photograph but my favourite was this close up.
A man was testing the handrail with a hammer, he said that the rivets had been in for over 200 years. They put some strengthening bars on it a short while ago, apparently the top part had given way and someone had fallen to their death in the River Dee below.
Part of the canal was frozen and we saw paw marks on the ice going from bank to bank and to this wellie that had been thrown there. Piles of fish scales, fins and a bone (from a pike) led us to think that the prints were from an otter. There were more scales in the marina close by so it had had some successful catches. We'd have loved to see it!
We finished the morning off by going to the pub where we had coffee and Irish whiskey cake. It was a most successful morning and we're hoping for more joint meets.
