Reflections- Engine Shed

Stirling is big on heritage and nothing sums up its new image as a city than the Engine Shed, a centre dedicated to conservation of Scotland’s heritage.

I like the novel way it has of presenting historical facts- like this shovel, one of a series, bearing snippets of information about the shops. (see extra photo).

“ In 1783 Perfumers had splendid shops in every principal street.  Somme of them advertised the keeping of bears, to kill occasionall, for greasing ladies and gentlemen’s hair, as superior to nay ther animal fat.”

William Creech, 1783, writing to Sir John Sinclair, noting changes in the previous 20 years.
