First Day On The Job
The much anticipated day was upon us & I began my term at Lloyds.
About 7 or so newbies gathered in the reception area waiting to be shown through the security doors. After a short while we were led to the kitchen area & told that we wouldn't be having our ID card photos taken today as the camera had broken down (clearly not Blippers then!?). After a short wait we then taken to a small conference room so we could crack on with the meat of the day, the introduction & the inevitable training.
We were subject (our trainer scarpered pretty sharpish before the shorts started so she didn't have to watch it for the ten thousandth time) to the classically ridiculous & laughable videos that warned us about & against the evil forces fighting against business: fraud, money laundering, harassment, the misuse of confidential information. One film was a James Bond knock-off for sure; it had a spy, a villain, big money crime, it was genius & so cringe-worthy. Hope the new 007 film Skyfall is slightly more well thought out.
After what seemed like days, but was actually only a matter of hourse, our training was complete. We had been told that we would all be split up & put into different departments & a few of us were taken away to begin. The rest of us were left eagerly awaiting. The bombshell was then dropped. Because our clearance to use the systems had not be obtained, we had to be asked to go home! Quite strange yes, but nevermind, they were very apologetic & it's just one of those things. 12 midday finish. Cannot say fairer than that on your first day. The only snag was that Jenny & I had traveled into Haywards Heath together this morning & she wasn't due to finish till 5pm... ah.
Needless to say, we met for coffee & cookie in Starbucks & decided that I would in fact spend the afternoon checking the town out, wandering around the shops & chilling somewhere with a paper. And that is what I did. Starbucks became a very close friend to me today!
In the evening, we settled down with Ri & J to watch Avengers Assemble. Terrific film. A must watch.
Quite an odd day, but as odd days go, it was pretty good. I'm looking forward to working for Lloyds & some good news was that the project is likely to be extended until March next year, so, every cloud.
What will tomorrow bring?!
