Kereru or Wood Pigeon
Today we drove in our coach from Auckland to Paihia in Northland. We stopped in Puhoi for a Devonshire cream morning tea at the oldest tea rooms in NZ. It was a quaint place with rescue hens scratching in the garden and while wandering around I spotted this Kereru (wood pigeon) feeding in a cabbage tree. They gorge themselves on flowers and berries until they are too heavy to fly and just sit like a 'Heffalump' in the tree. This shot is straight out of camera - no editing.
Another stop at the Whangarei Town Basin for lunch then onto Paihia where we will stay for 5 nights.
Tomorrow we go to Russell and sail in a tall ship around the Bay of Islands.
