LIFE SAVER

Travelled on a 125 mile round trip in the fog to visit this special museum. According to their website it is open every day until the end of October - Noooo - it was closed. So the image today is a sneak preview through the front door. The ocean lies 100 metres away - what sea I cannot see it !

210 years ago, in October 1802, the Zetland lifeboat arrived at Redcar on the North East coast of England and began a rescue service to the seafarers who risked their lives around the shores of Britain.

This is the oldest surviving lifeboat in the world. The Zetland saved over 500 lives and now forms part of the National Historic Ships Committee (NHSC) collection. A special boat indeed.
